CinemaStar Drive - Failed to access sector

Postby STT » 08.05.13, 09:34

Hi,
I have problem hard disk for Hitachi Model HCC545032B9A300 C5K500 B-320GB (CinemaStar).
Disk don't set any password, no security freeze, no lock, but I cannot view/read/write data/sectors. The error prompt ABORT command when reading sector.
What mechanism to block user to access the drive?

Any method to break the problem so that I can read/write the drive thru PC?
Any method to upgrade the original firmware? PC3K seem not support this model of Hitachi drive. Any idea?

Drive Details:
Firmware revision: PB3GCS0B
HDD C5K500 B-320 HCC545032B9A300
P/N : 0A79073
MLC : PBM300
S/N : GTH7VXPR

Need your guy help.

Yes, we can perform read ID, SMART check...
When you wish to read/write the sector it will abort.

If you can reach ID maybe you have some problem inside SA. You start DE task, can you select option to work with active utility, then try and read any sectors?

Did you check SA, are there any problems? You check Copy 0 + 1?

In PC3K, it failed to find the correct family. For Hitachi only support till C4K..But this model of drive is C5K... Not sure PC3K have any new version to upgrade for this family.

Without the correct family. I cannot access the SA. For the utility like read, write or seek. All return result ABORT/Failed to access.

We suspect the firmware control the drive. Actually we have the original firmware(PB3VCC0D) but we don't have the method to download back into this drive.

Fyi, this is DVR/Set Top Box drive.

Any body can help?

Thanks

Can you access with similar utility, then check in RAM to make sure important modules are loading correctly there?

Yes, i had tried HTS5450xx, but it prompt an error on techno mode key.
Any other solutions? I don't think PC3K can't solve it! Outsite have some ppl successfully reset the drive but really no idea how there make it. It took about 2 hours + to reset/unlock.

Sorry let me revise my statement.

Yes, the HTS5450xx work on CinemaStar drive, which can access the SA area. But only for those unlock drive which have been done by other people.
Drive direct from the Set Top Box is failed Techno Mode Key.
