HTS723225A7A364 - Gets ready, ABR on ID

Hi all,
I have the following drive i need some help with please:
Hitachi
Model: HTS723225A7A364
Part: H2T2501672S7
HDD: Z7K320-250
MLC: DA3735
FW: A60W
Date: OCT-11
Rev:A00
Interface: SATA
Capacity:250 GB
Made in: Thailand

Slim drive profile.

Drive was clicking, I have changed heads with identical drive.
I changed 8 pin chip over.

Drive gets 'ready' in pc3000 but as soon as I go to 'ID' the drive I get: "HDD ID has not been read. Error: Device error detected "ABR" run utility?"

Remains "ready" with DRD and DSC, but also have ERR and ABR.

Is there something I need to do to get this working?
I backed up the doner modules and such before attempting recovery.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

It is related to compatibility of donor heads. Heads are compatible, but not 'compatible enough'.

After DRDY and enter utility you can select 'HDD ID' option and ID will show. some sectors can be accessed, but only to specific LBA. Similar problem like the post processing bug in F3.

Other option is to use second donor parts, but not 100% sure on what determines compatibility.

AJ2008 are you sure? My donor have identical all description on top label - of course except SN and date of production

Yes. Place heads back to donor and will still be perfect.

I am not sure what exactly determines compatibility. I have many cases like this and second (or third) donor usually works well, but again I am not sure what determines compatibility.

There is something more to it. I got some cases with this problem. On one instance a few days ago i tried to restart several times, and suddenly the disk started by it self with correct ID, without init via the utility. Could read most of sectors normally with full speed. On the next start, same again, no ID and ABR. ID via utility and can only read a few million sectors from LBA0 again. This suggest that it is something else then only head compatibility involved.

How did you solve this? I have a Hitachi HTS545050b9a300 that is doing what is described here. I have placed two sets of head on it, but I still get the errors

In short, I was loading PSHT + RDMT into RAM.

'View and edit resources' allows you to view modules from RAM instead of SA. PHST obviously was not loading to RAM correct, so it is possible to import to this address in RAM real copy of PSHT then save it.

If they do this you need to:

wait for drive readiness

Ignore it's error, force into utility (select the correct or closest model possible), uncheck PCB ONLY, check tech key detect, enter utility and wait for utility to load.

It will appear that disk did not ID still, but then go to tools -> Drive ID, it will ID.

however as mentioned, these go ABRT when hitting certain errors, and the only way to reset it is to exit the utility and redo the process mentioned above.

loading lists into ram helps sometimes a little, also disable read look ahead, also you can try disable reassign as well. but still having disks do this even with all these fixes.
