Hi All,
WD20SMZW-11YSCF0
This drive is SED locked. I have tried isolating the heads and getting into kernal mode but it still gives the SED locked warning and does not allow access into utility.
I tried originally by doing a sata conversion on the original usb logic board. I have also now swapped bios onto compatible SATA logic board now but still the same error.
Are there any work arounds to get into kernal mode with this drive or is this drive not fully supported yet? Any info would be great.
thanks,
Lawrence

Hi, this is Palmer and this family unsupported in PC-3000 yet.

Hi,
Thanks for the info. I thought that might have been the case.

You probably meant WD20SMZW-11YFCS0 drive
It's Charger family and it can be recovered by some people, outsource.

Hello!
Now there is a way to get data from these drives. To do this you will need an unlocked PCB.
Description:

Link to purchase unlocked HDD from Donor Drive:
https://www.hddheadtools.com/product/wd ... overy-pcb/
Here is the steps you have to pass with this PCB:
1. Desolder the patient's ROM and externally read the ROM firmware (these are 1.8V ROMs). Then re-weld it into the patient's PCB.
2. Make a full backup of the donor's firmware (unlocked), especially the ROM.
3. Place the donor PCB, with its ROM Chip, and original ROM on the patient's HDA.
4. Select the SpyGlass family, and start in Kernel mode.
Note: if it does not show the serial number it means that the disk is locked and can not be continued.
5. Record the patient's ROM. No block is necessary.
Note: From this moment do not turn off the disk until you re-record the donor's ROM, otherwise the PCB will be blocked (you can unblock it by recording the original ROM of the donor with an external reader).
6. Upload to HDD RAM> Load from file> search the donor backup folder and load the modules: 01, 10 and 11
7. Test> Restart Utilit in the Normal Mode> click Yes
8. Back up the patient's firmware, and solve any firmware problems.
(Note: You will not be able to access the data with 0GB capacity), nor make a head map.
9. Record the original ROM of the donor so that the PCB is not blocked and then turn off the disk.
10. Place the patient's PCB on the patient's HDA and try to recover the data.

This PCB cannot be installed on a Charger drive

Yes, this PCB on the link is the Palmer example.
Also there are the same PCBs for the Charger drives.
The unlocking steps should be the same.
For now there are no any other solutions that we can advice.

So far the only company that claims that they have unlocked PCB for Charger is Dolphin Lab in China. I'm unable to find any confirmation anywhere that it actually works.
Do you know a place where one can buy an unlocked, working Charger PCB?
Re: WD20SMZW-11YSCF0 SED locked no kernal access
I think you won't be able to find such a place
It is much, much harder to make an unlocked Charger PCB, comparing to a Palmer one. And I don't think it is economically feasible on a mass scale.
Thank God it is still possible to unlock them

Doomer, if you know the way to unblock, you are always welcome to share it to community.

Sorry, can't do that
As well as you can't publish PC3000 source code for free for everybody
Such is life

Is correction of CS for this family supported in PC3000?

CS correction for Palmer drives should be added in next 6.6 release.

Alex ,
In The Third Line Do You say " 3. Place the donor PCB, with its ROM Chip, and original ROM on the patient's HDA. " can you explain a bit its confusing .You Say " Place the donor PCB, with its ROM Chip, on the patient's HDA. " This is Fine ,What Do You Mean By " and original ROM" ?

Im a colleague of original poster we have a new case a WD WD10SDZW-11UMGS0 usb version
,we now have an unlocked Palmer PCB purchased from donor drives ,my understanding is to transfer patient rom to unlocked PCB and fit the unlocked PCB to patients hdd .Tried this but still SED locked and is not showing id or capacity as noted in Gary_TS step 4 "Note: if it does not show the serial number it means that the disk is locked and can not be continued. " is there any options i can explore with this hdd
